Braille displays

Portable braille display

Braille displays work with screen reader software to translate information into tactile format. They range between 20 and 80 braille cells in size, depending on whether the display is used with a laptop or desktop computer.

Each braille cell is a set of six dots that can be raised or lowered electronically. Each cell represents a single on screen character, so an average line of text can be represented in grade one braille using an 80 cell display.

Braille displays feature a set of bars and/or buttons, that make it easier to move around the screen. They also include touch cursors, which make it easier to focus the on screen cursor on a given braille cell.

There are many different braille displays on the market. Certain braille displays work with certain screen readers, and the price will vary depending on the size and complexity of the braille display.
