The Technology Association of Visually Impaired people (TAVIP) promotes, supports and encourages the use of technology amongst blind and partially sighted people. TAVIP is the successor organisation to the British Computer Association of the Blind (BCAB), a self-help organisation founded in 1969.

TAVIP has members from across the whole of the UK, and some international members as well.

We’re involved in the following key activities:

  • Sharing impartial advice about computers, tablets, mobiles and assistive technologies.
  • Campaigning for equal access to technology and the internet.
  • Hosting independent technology help lines and a discussion forum.
  • Producing technology articles, tutorials and webinars.
  • Holding technology meetups and events.
  • Providing specialist IT training for people in education and work.

Free Membership

Our members include people taking their first steps with technology, through to people working as professionals in the IT industry. TAVIP, formally the British Computer Association of the Blind, has a noble history of accessibility reform and community engagement to improve accessibility across the board.

We are currently offering free membership for a three year period, so there has never been a better time to get involved, learn more about technology and have a say in the future of the charity.

TechABreak 2024

TechABreak is a weekend event which provides members with the opportunity to find out about the latest developments in assistive technology as well as catching up friends old and new. This year’s TechABreak will take place from Friday 11th to Sunday 13th October 2024. We will be returning to the Old Swan Hotel, Harrogate.

This year we’ll be making our conference programme even more interactive. Our ever popular presentations will focus on the themes of Artificial Intelligence, Navigation Apps and Tools, and products that don’t require the use of a touchscreen and we’ll be giving you, our members, the opportunity to get hands on with audio and video recording.
